Telefónica looks for innovative and sustainable solutions around the world to accelerate its global connectivity project.
Telefónica seeks innovative proposals to connect isolated or remote rural areas from any part of the world, making possible the connection between people and access to the mobile internet. The ideas will be received from today until June 30 through the Global Call 2019 Internet for All, framed in the project of the same name launched by Telefónica last year. Internet for All is an important business opportunity for Telefónica in areas that have not been covered by traditional infrastructure, and, at the same time, a sustainable and responsible project to reduce the digital divide.
The objective of this call, driven by Telefónica's Innovation area, is to explore sustainable solutions to two challenges: first, obtaining real and reliable data from isolated areas that are radically different from the urban environment during the pre-deployment phase of the band wide; Second, once connectivity is extended in remote environments, it is necessary to accelerate the adoption and impact of this on people's lives. To do this, digital solutions and services are sought to ensure that connectivity provides value and impact on the development of communities. The registration and registration of ideas, projects and startups, as well as all the information is in https://calls.openfuture.org/calls.
Internet for Everyone is an innovative business project open to collaboration with third parties, with companies and other organizations that share the objective of closing the digital divide through connectivity. It is the same collaborative spirit that characterizes Telefónica's open innovation model. We already work with different technology partners and now we want to expand the collaboration framework to face the next commercial and digital inclusion challenges, analyzing innovative technological ideas or proposals ", says Gonzalo Martín-Villa, Telefónica's Chief Innovation Officer.
The winning project will have a working space for a period of between 3 and 6 months in any of the hubs present in 11 countries of Wayra and Open Future, according to the availability and the most suitable location. In addition, mentoring and follow-up will be offered to selected projects, given by members of the Internet for All team, as well as dissemination of the initiative.
In case the proposed solution is technically validated by the Internet experts for All and certify their commercial interest, the winning startup will have the possibility of making a Commercial Pilot with Internet for All valued at up to € 100,000 and a duration of between 3 and 6 months. If the pilot is successful, the possibility of including the project or product in the Telefónica Group service catalog will be studied. Internet for Everyone was originally created as an initiative of Telefónica that considers connectivity as a fundamental requirement to access the advantages offered by digitalization and for the economic and social progress of people.
Under this innovative model of infrastructure deployment economically sustainable and open to collaboration with other companies, Telefonica del Peru, Facebook, IDB Invest and CAF recently announced the creation of a company, Internet for Everyone, whose sole mission will be to connect unconnected areas From Peru. This is the country where the project has started, which has already managed to connect more than 2,000 communities in remote areas and benefit more than 700,000 people. Now we seek to replicate this model anywhere in the world with the same collaborative spirit by adding open, disruptive and sustainable solutions.
